About Us
Timothy Fredel
Timothy Fredel’s journey from a Wisconsin dairy farm to Silicon Valley is a testament to resilience, adaptability, and the power of access to the right opportunities. Raised in a family that valued hard work and education, Tim started his career far from the world of venture capital—milking cows twice a day—before earning his place among the leading minds in technology. He worked for Apple, Cray Research, and Sun Microsystems, gaining deep expertise in technology, business strategy, and innovation.
Tim’s career took a pivotal turn when he joined Jennifer Carolyn King as co-CEO of BioSpace.com, helping to shape the company into a powerhouse for biotech and pharmaceutical talent acquisition. Together, they built a platform that supported some of the most critical advancements in life sciences, directly impacting the search for cures for devastating diseases.
While BioSpace thrived in mission and impact, it didn’t provide the financial return they had expected after two decades of dedication. But Tim and Jennifer didn’t let that stop them. Instead, they applied their hard-earned wisdom and made a small but game-changing investment in the early days of Baidu, gaining invaluable insight into what it takes to scale exponential impact on a global level.
Now, Tim is focused on paying forward his experience and success. He works alongside Jennifer to support founders from historically overlooked communities, ensuring they have access to the capital, knowledge, and networks necessary to thrive. He believes that every underdog deserves a shot—because he’s been there, and he knows firsthand what it takes to rise.
Together, Timothy Fredel and Jennifer Carolyn King are on a mission to level the playing field for entrepreneurs everywhere, using their past struggles, hard-won victories, and deep industry expertise to catalyze success for the next generation.
Jennifer Carolyn King
Jennifer Carolyn King is a pioneering entrepreneur, investor, and advocate for underrepresented founders. As an Internet trailblazer, she launched BioSpace.com on March 15, 1995, successfully raising $30 million in venture capital at a time when fewer than 2% of venture funds went to women-led companies. Under her leadership, BioSpace became the leading online platform for the life sciences industry, helping biotech and pharmaceutical companies find top talent and accelerate the search for cures for diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s, and diabetes—the latter being deeply personal, as both of her children were diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of four.
Despite its lasting impact, BioSpace was not the financial success it should have been, despite reaching profitability and building a team of over 100 extraordinary individuals who shared her mission. But Jennifer took those hard-won lessons into her next chapter. Through an early investment in a fledgling Chinese search engine—Baidu—she and her partner Tim Fredel gained firsthand experience in how access to capital shapes success.
Today, Jennifer is paying it forward. As a mentor and investor, she is dedicated to empowering founders from marginalized communities, ensuring they have access to the “vital forms of capital” needed to rise, just as she did. She understands the challenges of being the underdog and has made it her mission to change the odds for the next generation of entrepreneurs.
